Process

All of our products are dreamed up in our San Francisco studio. Dana lovingly hand paints or draws every single pattern which are then re-worked and translated into heirloom textiles in collaboration with our artisan partners.

Our hand tufted rugs are made in India using traditional hand tufting techniques. Hand tufted rugs are not made on a loom, rather the wool is forced through the backing using a tool called a tufting gun. The wool used in these rugs is 100% organic wool from New Zealand which is very soft and yields a luxurious and cushion like feel. To achieve our colors on the rugs we are proud to use 100% plant dyes. The result is a much more natural and rich look while being more friendly to our environment. This also makes each rug totally unique as the dye process is all done by hand making colors slightly differ from piece to piece.

For our flat weave rugs, we've partnered with artisan masters in Teotitlan de Valle outside of Oaxaca, which is known for its textiles, especially rugs, which are woven on hand-operated tapestry floor looms, from wool obtained from local sheep and dyed mainly with local, natural dyes. They combine historical Zapotec designs with contemporary designs such as reproductions of famous artists' work or in our case, with Dana's unique design sensibilities. Together we strive to create simple, modern, and timeless pieces in this special way.

Our table linens and blankets are handwoven on 3rd generation flying shuttle looms in a small village outside of Oaxaca City in Mexico.  We are proud to work with master artisans who have been working in this way for generations.

We also work with a co-operative of all female weavers in Guatemala (where Dana's grandfather was born and raised). With these lovely women, we create 100% cotton goods that are all plant dyed and hand woven on backstop looms, which are a simple horizontal looms, used especially in Central and South America, on which one of two beams holding the warp yarn is attached to a strap that passes across the weaver's back.

We travel the world in search of unique hand made techniques and craft communities to help preserve the beauty of these time tested traditions and hopefully to do some good at the same time. Our mission is to continue this quest for high quality crafted goods that we can share with you as heirlooms to love forever.
